Lead Fullstack Mobile Engineer

Job Description

We’re on a mission to protect society from fraud and money laundering. Fraud and regulation are rising, costing the UK economy over £100bn every year; this makes it more difficult for businesses to protect themselves and their clients - individuals like you and me - from fraud and money laundering.

Our co-founders Olly and Jack were led to this area when a friend was defrauded of £25K when buying their first property. At the time, anti-fraud technology didn’t exist, which meant that completing the anti-fraud checks required in these processes was largely manual. These big life moments should be exciting, but instead are often confusing and scary due to the painful process of completing these paper-based checks and the risk of fraud.

Thirdfort helps businesses to facilitate these anti fraud checks so that individuals know they can transact safely and seamlessly with professionals during these big transactions.

Our anti-fraud platform provides a secure way for professionals in regulated sectors like Lawyers, Estate Agents and Accountants to transfer funds and verify sensitive information through app based document checks, facial recognition and open banking.

Over 1500 businesses now trust Thirdfort to verify their clients. We are FCA regulated and have raised over $25m in capital from leading Fintech investors Breega and Element Ventures, as well as the founders of Zoopla, Funding Circle, Comply Advantage, Tessian, Fenergo and Fidel.


About the Role:

We’re looking for a Lead Fullstack Mobile Engineer to join our Consumer Team to take ownership of our mobile technical domain, and lead the development and delivery our the next iteration of our iOS and Android mobile applications. It’s a really exciting time to join the team, as we are just in the early stages of a new greenfield re-platforming project and modernising, alongside simplifying, our technology stack. Being specific, you’ll be leading the migration from Native to React Native, alongside taking the reins on driving forwards technical excellence in the mobile domain by helping us to mature our automated testing and delivery.

Looking more longer term, this is also a great opportunity for somebody who wants to step outside of the mobile domain and to make contributions across the full software stack, and wants to own the end-to-end delivery of high quality features that drive forwards our organisation goals.

About the Team:

We’re a remote first, mixed discipline team of 4 software engineers with various specialisations although we’re all continuous learners and hence are in the process of growing our skills to become more capable of contributing across our entire tech stack. We work cross-functionally across the organisation, working together to distill complexity down into small, value focused deliverables that we can ship quickly and iterate on.

Day to day, we’re trusted to work in the way that suits us best which at present is a mix of Shape Up and Scrum, but we’re constantly challenging ourselves to continuously improve our way of working.

As a Lead Engineer you will:

  • Work with other engineering leads in the collective and provide technical leadership on our mobile domain.
  • Contribute to high-level planning and strategy, deep dive into problems and get hands-on developing pragmatic solutions across the full software stack.
  • Keep a high bar for technical excellence in the collective, through your own work, highlighting the work of others and calling out when things haven’t quite met the bar.
  • Work collaboratively with leaders in product, design, support and sales to identify and execute on opportunities that further the organisation’s mission and goals.
  • Coach and mentor other engineers in the team, supporting them to broaden their skillsets and become competent working in the mobile domain.
  • Contribute to our engineering culture, advocate for learning and proper usage of the new technologies, and lead by example on knowledge sharing and collaboration across the whole technology collective.
  • Additional duties as required.

    • We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You have significant experience architecting, building and shipping mobile applications using both React Native and Native.
  • You have experience implementing automated testing and CI/CD workflows for mobile applications.
  • You have some experience developing backend services using on Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript or similar.
  • You solve problems end-to-end, from mobile applications through to backend services and infrastructure.
  • You’re comfortable working in a startup environment, can work both independently and collaboratively with others to distill ambiguous requirements into pragmatic solutions.
  • Can communicate complex topics with stakeholders of varying technical ability and can generate buy in for new concepts
  • You have a strong product mindset, and can view problems from various perspectives and can balance ‘building the right thing’ against ‘building the thing right’.
  • You’re a passionate technologist, and always have one eye on the expanding frontier of software engineering and like to bring new ideas to the group to help the organisation to accelerate towards our goals.
